Men’s bonspiel rocks the rink in Summerland

Fifteen teams competed in the annual Summerland Men’s Open curling bonspiel Friday to Sunday at the Summerland Curling Club.

Eight Summerland teams along with two each from Penticton and Kelowna and one each from Oliver, Winfield and Vancouver took part.

Prizes were awarded for teams scoring three points or more in an end during the games.

Making the long trip from Kelowna (due to the highway closure) was worth it for the Justin Nillson rink, which took the A event title. Other members of the team were third Tyler Jaeger, second Norbert Bernardin and lead Ryan Davidson.

Runner-up was the Summerland team of Glen Brennan, Andrew Barnes, Silvio Barreira and lead Jeff Jesske.

Taking the B event title was the Winfield entry of skip Grant Hughes, third David McGarry, second David Gibbs and lead Levi Pawliw.

Runner-up was the Kelowna team of Devon Tether, Justin Tether, David Tether and Rudy Deiksen.

Two Summerland teams battled it out for C event crown with skip John McKay, third Warren Parker, second Gary Onderstal and lead Doug Marchesi coming out on top. Second place went to Mike Rudniski, Louie Costa, Wayne Lock and Denis Savoie.

The Penticton team skipped by Daryl Tarr took the D event title. Other members were third Jason Ranchoux, second Brad Snyder and lead Craig Kelman.

Runners-up were Summerland’s Jerry Kozlowski, John Fitzgerald, Mike Brandson and John Dorn.

MIXED MASTERS: The Summerland club is hosting B.C. Interior Mixed Curling Associatio­n Mixed 60-plus masters playoff games this Monday at 12:30 p.m. and, if necessary, on Tuesday.

The teams competing in the best-of-three series are Tony Blashko from Penticton and Frances Reglin from Kelowna.

MONDAY MEN (Feb. 4): Art Lappalaine­n def. Steve Clement, Mike Rudniski def. Matthew Lowery, Rob Robinson def. Don Lawrence.

TUESDAY MIXED (Feb. 5): John Fitzgerald def. Jerry Lidin, Hector Cartier def. Marilyn Cahoon, Barb Ezart def. Gail Ostaficiuk.

TUESDAY LADIES (Feb. 5): Jodie Brennan def. Jackie Clement, Judy Beck def. Perry-Lynn Bula, Bev Skinner def. Joy Lappalaine­n, Debbie Jones def. Betty Raymond, Sue Johnston tied Kathy Hogman.

SENIOR MEN (Feb. 6): Paul Martin def. Warren Parker, Eric Johnson def. Stan Green, Jim Hunt def. Hector Cartier.

WEDNESDAY MEN (Feb. 6): Glen Brennan def. Dale Abrey, Stan Green def. Jared St. John, Louie Costa def. Gary Raymond, Ken Rae def. Dick Drewnisz.

THURSDAY LADIES (Feb. 7): Virginia Cundliffe tied Frances Colussi, Lappalaine­n def. Gail Ostaficiuk, Gillespie def. Barb Ezart.

THURSDAY OPEN (FEB. 7): Tony Blsashko tied Andrew Barnes, Jeff Goodis def. Russ Lemke, Art Lappalaine­n def. Gary Raymond.

If a player delivers a stone belonging to the opposing team, a stone belonging to the other team shall be put in its place after it comes to a stop.
