Speculation tax should be illegal

-

Dear Editor:

Several letters have been printed recently regarding the pending speculation tax in British Columbia.

What is the purpose of the Social Insurance Number being required when submitting your declaration on the status of your residence?

The Pentagon has been hacked, hospitals have had their records acquired, Facebook has been breached and who knows how many have had their personal information fall into the hands of corrupt individuals.

Apparently, if you do not submit this information, your declaration is null and void. Under the Privacy Act, this is illegal and should be challenged.

If the NDP government has mailed you a form, then they should already have the appropriate information. There is no purpose to request your SIN number.

I recently sent a letter to Hon. Carole James stating that under the Common Law of England, which is still the law today, under Tort Law of Nuisance it clearly states: “NO Government, Corporation, Company or individual shall place another person in hardship and despair. This is the LAW.”

This also applies to Crown corporations: BC Hydro, Fortis and ICBC, which jack up their rates whenever they feel like it due to overpaid executives and monopolizing a necessary service.

We have a constitution that needs to be practiced and respected.

A governing body has the obligation to represent itself in a manner in which they were elected and reflect on their political platform.

Power and ego have destroyed every government to date and the present one is on the same path. This needs to stop. Pat Mabbot
