Confirmed B.C. cases tops 3,000

-

VICTORIA — Confirmed cases of COVID19 in British Columbia surpassed 3,000 on Wednesday, as provincial health officials confirmed 18 new infections.

Total cases in B.C. rose to 3,008, following the latest update from Health Minister Adrian Dix and the provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Three more people have died, bringing total deaths in B.C. to 186.

A total of 2,660 people who tested positive have recovered, and there are just 162 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 17 individuals in hospital, three of whom are in intensive care.

Health officials also declared the end of the outbreak at Tabor Home, a long-term care facility in Abbotsford.

Three care facilities are still contending with active outbreaks, and while there are no new community outbreaks, Dix and Henry reminded that community exposure events continue to occur, and one slip can cause a surge in cases.

Dix and Henry pointed to the No. 5

Orange strip club, which temporarily shut its doors on Monday after a staff member tested positive for the respiratory disease.

“Public alerts and the temporary closure of businesses are some of the ways public heath teams are working to effectively manage COVID-19 in our communities,” they said. “What each of us can do to support contact tracing activities is to complete our own personal risk assessment when deciding where to go and who to see.”
