“Movie: Midway”

This 2019 combat epic about the Second World War’s Battle of Midway was a pet project of director Roland Emmerich, who struggled to find financing for a drama with flashy special effects and a large ensemble cast. With a $100 million production budget, it’s one of the most expensive independent films ever. Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson star.

“Movie: Bloodshot”

Based on a Valiant Comics character, this 2020 superhero action movie stars Vin Diesel as Ray Garrison, a Marine who is killed in action, then brought back to life with new superpowers by an organization that plans to use him as a weapon. Sam Heughan (“Outlander”), Eiza González, Toby Kebbell, Guy Pearce and Lamorne Morris also star.

“Movie: Brian Banks”

Tom Shadyac (“Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” “Bruce Almighty”) directed this fine 2018 drama that tells the true story of the football player whose dreams of the NFL are dashed when a classmate falsely accuses him of rape, resulting in him spending nearly six years in prison. Aldis Hodge (“Underground”) plays Banks. Greg Kinnear and Sherri Shepherd also star.

“Movie: Force of Nature”

A gang of thieves find their plan to pull off a heist at a high-end apartment complex during a hurricane thwarted when police force them to evacuate the building in this 2020 actioner from director Michael Polish (“Northfork,” “Twin Falls Idaho”). Mel Gibson,

Emile Hirsch, David Zayas and Kate Bosworth (Polish’s wife) head a solid cast.
