MILLER, Glenn

-

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn Miller on June 30, 2021 at the age of 75 in Penticton BC. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Carol, daughters Glenda and Diana, grandsons Brennen and Ashton and numerous extended family members throughout Canada. He was predeceased by his mother Evelyn in 1983 and his father Henry in 2010. Glenn was born on August 1,1945 in Melville, Saskatchewan. As a young boy, his family moved to Kelowna, BC. His caring and helpful nature was further nurtured when he began working at the Kelowna General Hospital as a teenager. It was there that he fell in love with the love of his life Carol. Before their marriage in 1966, Glenn became the FIRST male licensed practical nurse (LPN) to graduate from the Kelowna Nursing Program. He was always very proud to hold that distinction. After their marriage, Glenn and Carol moved to Trail, BC where they would live for 2 years before coming back to the Okanagan and settling down in Penticton. He began working at the Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) and his passion for nursing and commitment to PRH saw him complete over 38 years of service before retirement. Even though he worked in various departments, he found the most satisfaction and fulfillment during the last 20 years of his career, which he spent in the Rehab department. By this time, he had already developed quite a reputation (but in a good way!) and was known to many as “Mr. Happy”. Staff always knew when Glenn was on duty, with the sound of whistling coming down the hallway or from the laughter in yet another patient’s room. Even though Glenn loved nursing, his faith was also very important to him. He served for many years as chairman of the school board at Concordia Lutheran Church school as well as completed a Stephen Ministries course. This helped him to minister and provide spiritual support to church members in the community. He also had a lifelong interest in stamp collecting as well as geneology. We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. David Paisley for all the years of exceptional care and compassion he always provides, and most recently to Dr. Leona Harries for her concern and support. To all the staff at Trinity Care Centre, thank you for the wonderful care given to Glenn and the kindness shown during his stay. We always appreciated your efforts! There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Glenn’s memory to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation (www. sosmedicalfoundation.com ) at the Penticton Hospital. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com.
