VAN DE VYVERE, Albert “Bert” William

-

Albert “Bert” William Van de Vyvere passed away the morning of July 24, 2021 with his daughter, Carolynn at his side, listening to his favorite Simon & Garfunkle songs. Bert was born in Winnipeg on March 24, 1944 to Jules and Florence (Shatford) Van de Vyvere; the eldest of four sons. Growing up in Winnipeg, Bert was surrounded by extended family and formed strong friendships with his cousin, Danny Van de Vyvere and school friend Ken Horseman (D).

It was in Winnipeg that Bert met the love of his life, Peggy, and the two were married on February 17, 1967. With his passing, he is reunited with her. Bert is survived by his daughters Lisa (Chris) Green, Tracey (Spencer) O’Bray, and Carolynn Van de Vyvere (Richard Maruk), and son, Kris (Lisa) Sutherland. He will be missed by his grandchildren (Cameron, Norah, Adam, Holly, Isabella, Eli and Caitlin), his brothers Brian (Cathy) and Rob and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, particularly those he taught with at Rutland

Senior Secondary in Kelowna. Bert is predeceased by his wife Peggy, his parents Jules & Florence, his brother Jim and his beloved grandson, Ian. Bert was a caring and loving father and grandfather, a funny and kind friend and a patient and supportive high-school English & Literature teacher. His quiet, gentle nature and wonderfully dry sense of humour will be missed by all. Bert was passionate about curling, both playing and watching, and for much of the year could be found on the curling rink several days a week or in front of the TV watching the various bonspiels. He was a terrific arm-chair skip. Bert loved to fish and a great day for him was an early morning trip up to a mountain lake. He would get into his waders and belly boat and silently paddle around the lake, casting his fly line and enjoying the serene setting. He was not a terribly successful

fisherman but it seemed catching the fish was only a bonus anyway.
