DOWLING, Angeline

-

Angeline Dowling passed away on July 13th, 2021 following a brief illness. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families, stepdaughter Joyce Gill and family and the 2nd love of her life Bernie Strohmann and family. Angeline was born April 30th, 1932 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan to Leon and Pauline Yuzwa. There she lived on a homestead with eight brothers and sisters. Due to the drought and depression, the family decided to move to B.C. in 1944. They settled in the Queensborough section of New Westminster where Ang went to high school. Upon completion of high school, Ang took courses to become a Psychiatric Nurse. She moved to Tacoma, Washington to practice; however, a man named Gordon Dowling pursued her and convinced her to come back to New Westminster and marry him. She then went on to work in Woodland School and Riverview Hospital as a Psychiatric Nurse. During this time, Leon and Pauline lived with them. Ang and Gord ran a Seniors Lodge in Cumberland on Vancouver Island for several years. Once they sold it, they spent summers in the Okanagan and winters in Desert Hot Springs (Palm Springs) and enjoyed living in their motorhome. In a more permanent fashion, they settled in Summerland and later Penticton. Gord passed away in 2004. Ang met Bernie Strohmann in 2005 when he lived next door in Red Wing Resort. They spent each day together sharing meals, activities and conversations and had developed a very close relationship. During this time, she was welcomed wholeheartedly into the Strohmann family. In 2013, Ang and Bernie downsized and moved into Athens Creek Retirement Lodge. Throughout their time together Ang and Bernie did some travelling. They traveled to Germany to meet Bernie’s sister and to see the country. Ang said it was a wonderful trip. They travelled to Ontario to visit Bernie’s son Rob and to attend a wedding. Ang also travelled to Saskatoon with Brian and Mary to visit her brother Paul’s children and attend Aunt Helene’s funeral. Locally, Ang and Bernie made many short trips to visit Bernie’s family. Ang and Bernie made the most of having their little Hyundai Elantra and took a car trip to the Kootenays to stay at several Hot Spring Resorts. Ang and Bernie really enjoyed themselves together and they kept each other young. At Athens Creek, Ang had a very good life and participated in many activities. Along with Bernie, she had her scooter to bomb around on and to visit the mall, banks and things nearby. She developed friendships with other residents and with the Athens Creek Staff. She remained interested in the state of healthcare, politics and current events and always enjoyed a good conversation. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her nieces and nephews. Ang and Bernie were together for 16 years and had a wonderful relationship. Ang will be missed by many for her lively spirit, her spunky personality and her caring ways. A private family gathering to celebrate her life will be held Sept. 22, 2021. Condolences and memories may be shared by visiting
