OF ‘CHESAPEAKE SHORES’ ON HALLMARK CHANNEL

-

While your eccentric-entrepreneur “Chesapeake Shores” character Evan has been discussed since Season 5 began, you make your first physical appearance on the series in the episode debuting Sunday, Aug. 29. Are you happy with the arc you’re given to play?

Oh, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised with my experience on the show this season. I’ve come into something that was already successful, and being the new guy who said ‘Yes’ to a character where I didn’t even know who he was, there were a lot of question marks when I showed up. And I am so, so pleased with the way

it went.

I got along with the cast so well. Most of my scenes are with Meghan (Ory), and I can’t say enough good things about her. We had so much fun together; our material is very Sam-and-Diane

(as on “Cheers”), since we just bicker and banter, which I enjoyed immensely. I’m excited for people to see it, and I’m really hoping we get to do it

again. I just want to go back and work with those people.

How did you find filming the show’s current season in the time of the coronavirus pandemic?

One of the more difficult aspects of how COVID-19 has changed the landscape is that with the two-week quarantine in Canada (where the series is made), gone are the days of, “Oh, I have a

three-day weekend! I’m going to fly home.”

When I flew up there for this job, we were all with each other for 12 weeks – and whether you’re in this industry or not, that’s about 10 weeks too many to be apart from your spouse. (Buckley is

married to actress Jenny Wade.)
