Juno nominated Celtic duo, siblings Cassie and Maggie to light up stage
The Rotary Centre for the Arts is pleased to welcome siblings Cassie and Maggie to the Mary Irwin Theatre for an intimate evening of live music on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Nova Scotian sisters Cassie and Maggie Macdonald have been lighting up the world with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic instrumentals and vocals for many years. Appearing on stages across North America, the U.K., and Europe the sisters have enchanted audiences far and wide with lively fiddle, piano and guitar arrangements, and stunning sibling vocal harmonies in both English and Gaelic, all complemented by their intricate and percussive stepdancing style.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cassie and Maggie to the Mary Irwin Theatre, as we love to showcase the exceptional talent from across Canada. Cassie and Maggie are an unbelievably talented duo whose talent is symbolized by depth and variety in the music they perform,” says Colleen Fitzpatrick, executive director.
Cassie and Maggie have been
recognized for their talents with achievements such as their 2018 Juno nomination, 17 awards and nominations for Canadian folk music, East Coast music, and Music Nova Scotia, and Chicago Irish American News’ Female Vocal Album of the Year award. Cassie provides the powerful, lively fiddling, while her younger sister,
Maggie, adds beautiful guitar, piano sounds and crystal-clear vocals.
Both siblings use foot percussion to drive the rhythms of their songs. It’s often noted that family groups have a special musical closeness and Cassie and Maggie demonstrate this phenomenon. It’s no wonder that the duo is garnering acclaim at home and abroad.
