Show must go on: Kim Chiu proceeds to taping even after shooting incident

- BY BEA KIRSTEIN T. MANALAYSAY

EIGHT CONSECUTIVE bullets were fired at the van that Kim Chiu was in on her way to her taping on Wednesday, March 4, but despite the traumatic experience, the actress still lived by her job and proceeded to her work.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News just hours after the incident, Kim said that it was probably “adrenaline rush” that caved in her to push through with her taping of two scenes of the afternoon serye “Love Thy Woman.”

“People are asking me kung kumusta ako. Hindi ko alam. Tinatanong nila kung kumusta ka. Naisip ko, ‘Oo nga no? Kumusta pala ako’ (People are asking me how I am. I actually do not know. They kept asking how I am. I thought, `Oh right. How am I?’),” the actress admitted, adding that the whole experience was frightening.

In the same interview, Kim detailed that when she left her house in Quezon City, she decided to sleep during the travel time.

“Dapat magbabasa ako ng script pero inantok ako along the way palabas ng village so humiga ako. So kung hindi ako inantok, tinuloy ko ‘ yung pagbabasa ng script, siguro tinamaan na ako (I was supposed to read my script but I felt sleepy along the way as we exit the village, so I lied down. So if I did not feel sleepy and I continued reading the script, I would have been hit by the bullet),” she narrated.

According to Kim, the `raining bullets’ woke her. She saw bullets on the windshield then immediately checked on her driver and personal assistant, who were thankfully unhurt too.

The actress proceeded on calling several people, admitting that she did not know what to do at that moment. The authorities responded quickly as they stayed inside the car.

She, however, stressed that she has no clue on who could possibly behind it and insisted that she has no bad blood with anyone.

“Ang masasabi ko na lang, life is really precious. Kahit wala kang sakit, wala kang kasamaan ng loob. Kung natamaan ka ng balang iyon, siguro wala ka na (All I can say is that life is really precious. Even if you have no illness and enemies. If that bullet got you, you will lose your life),” she said.

Kim is also thankful for the concerns reached out to her and the “more than 100 messages” and “endless” calls that she got.

In a statement released by the Kapamilya network, ABSCBN said that it condemns the shooting incident.

“The network is relieved that none of them got hurt and is taking measures to ensure their safety. Our priority now is attending to their needs as they cope with this traumatic experience,” ABS-CBN said, adding its gratitude the authorities “for quickly responding to the incident and securing Kim and her companions.”

ABS-CBN said that it is currently working with the authorities in the investigation of the incident and hopes that the perpetrators will be made responsible soon. ■
