Ben&ben drops song ‘Magpahinga’

It is okay to rest. Everyone is allowed to take a break.

Filipino folk-pop band Ben&Ben reminded this to people who are going through a lot in their personal lives in their new song called “Magpahinga.”

The song was released by the band on Friday.

Before this, Ben&ben posted a clip where one of their vocalists sang a part of “Magpahinga.” In the caption, the ninepiece band wrote, “para sa mga pagod na lumaban. para sa’yo ‘to (For those who are tired of fighting, this is for you). magpahinga, an original song.”

Lead vocalist and guitarist Paolo Benjamin Guico was quoted as saying in reports that the song does not only remind everyone to “check up on ourselves and address our own inner struggles,” but it also wants to “accompany the listener” and remind them that “they are not alone” as they face challenges in life.

On Twitter, Paolo said “Magpahinga” was written when their sister was infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) more than a month ago.

“It was one of the toughest times for our family. In the middle of these dark days, in the middle of these battles we silently fight, may we remember that it’s okay to rest,” he shared.

“Thankfully our sister recovered, but there are so many out there who aren’t as fortunate, and many likewise are enduring the heaviest of days right now. This song is for all of you. Magpahinga ka muna (Take a rest first),” he continued.

“Magpahinga” was written by Paolo and his twin brother, vocalist Miguel Benjamin Guico, and produced by JP Verona. This is the second single from their upcoming album, following the first single, “Upuan.”

Ben&ben also celebrated their fourth anniversary as a band this month.

“It has been the ride of our lives with you, Liwanag. Let’s fly high together,” they told their fandom.
