Town of Coaldale’s new technology allows public to access property information online
A multi-year project to upgrade the Town’s geographic information system (GIS) software is complete, and that means easier access to property information for Coaldale residents. The new interactive webmap offers residents the opportunity to directly access information about anything in town, from land use districts to utility location services and – most recently – assessment information.
“Since transitioning to this software in early 2020, we’ve worked directly with the Oldman River Regional Services Commission (ORRSC) to enhance the usability and functionality of the program,” said Spencer Croil, Director of Planning and Community Development at the Town of Coaldale. “The latest updates are just another example of how we’ve been working for the past several years to ensure services and information in Coaldale are easier than ever to access.”
“This version of the interactive webpage is the same technology that much larger municipalities around Canada are using – places like Red Deer County, St. Albert, Victoria, and Kamloops to name a few. Coaldale residents now have access to property information using best-in-class GIS software,” said Jamie Thomas, GIS Analyst at ORRSC. “We’ve worked closely with Coaldale over the past few years to update our software to this new platform; because of our partnership model Coaldale was able to realise significant savings compared to doing something like this alone. Coaldale residents now have access to the type of service typically seen in much larger communities, but they can also be happy to know that because of our partnership approach the program is very affordable.”
The interactive webmap can be found on the Town of Coaldale website at coaldale.ca.
