Nuffield Scholarships open world to Canadian farmers

- CONTRIBUTED nuffield.ca.

Mid-career Canadians with a passion for agriculture apply from all over Canada to participate in a unique program designed to fast-track their leadership development in a way that might otherwise take a lifetime to achieve, then go on to become influencers in their sectors. That is the essence of Nuffield.

Nuffield Canada’s mandate is to inspire people to make a difference in the world of agriculture. ‘Agriculture’ includes all forms of primary production i.e. food, fibre, health care, bio-fuels, forestry, and aquaculture. Recipients can come from any part of agriculture i.e. producers, processing, governance, communications, etc.; involved in any aspect i.e. owners, managers, employees, administrators, or bureaucrats; and all industry philosophies i.e. commercial, cottage, organic, Indigenous, etc.

Applications for 2023 Nuffield Canada Agricultural Scholarships are now open and the deadline to apply is June 30, 2022.

The Nuffield Scholarship is a prestigious rural leadership program available to Canadian citizens who are involved in any aspect of agriculture. Its goal is to attract mid-career men and women who are ready to challenge themselves by doing 10 weeks of selfdirected international travel study to examine and research an agriculturally relevant issue. They then write a report on their research findings and make a presentation at Nuffield Canada’s Annual General Meeting.

This $15,000 scholarship provides individuals with a unique opportunity to: access the world’s most extensive network in food and farming; achieve personal development through travel and study; and deliver long-term benefits to Canadian farmers and growers, and to the industry as a whole.

The experience results in personal and professional benefits, while adding value to Canadian agriculture as scholars assume positions of greater influence in their field.

“The key to success in life and business is continuous learning. Nuffield offers this opportunity to grow and learn, but more importantly it introduces you to a network of amazing individuals who share the same passion,” says John Cote, a 2019 Nuffield Canada Scholar from Saskatchewan, and co-owner of Black Fox Farms & Distillery. “Nuffield not only allows you to grow as an individual but allows your team at home to gain from the experience as well. By encouraging you to be away from your business, you empower your team by your absence and by sharing your journey with them.”
