Roughriders sign trio of players
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Thursday the signings of three players — two of whom had stints with the CFL team late last season.
Non-import linebacker Aaron Crawford and import linebacker Brian Peters — both of whom spent time on the Roughriders’ practice roster in 2012 — and import defensive back Terrell Skinner inked pacts with Saskatchewan. Details of the contracts weren’t released.
Crawford, a former member of the PFC’s Regina Thunder, is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound product of Medicine Hat who played in the CIS with the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
The 26-year-old was selected by the Toronto Argonauts in the sixth round (40th overall) of the 2012 CFL draft but was released by the Argos.
Crawford joined the Roughriders’ expanded practice roster on Oct. 3 and was released Nov. 1.
Peters, 23, originally signed with the Roughriders on Oct. 16 and spent two weeks on their expanded practice roster before being released Nov. 1.
The 6-foot-3, 218-pound product of Pickerington, Ohio played collegiately at Northwestern.
In four seasons with the Wildcats, Peters accumulated a school-record 301 tackles as well as 12 interceptions, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.
Skinner, a 25-year-old from St. Petersburg, Fla., was a two-year starter in college at Maryland.
The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder had 67 tackles as a senior and earned an invitation to the 2010 Senior Bowl.
He subsequently had NFL stints with the Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts.
