At least they’re consistent

-

The TV universe is constantly expanding, and new channels and shows vie for attention just as much as old favourites. Here are the best bets on the box.

Castle

Castle’s (Nathan Fillion) career as an independent sleuth continues in the new episode Private Eye Caramba!, as a telenovela star hires him to determine who killed one of the actresses on the drama. It’ll probably come as no surprise that Beckett (Stana Katic) also is working the case, and the married detectives’ professional conflicts become almost — but not quite — as heightened as the emotions on the show-within-theshow. (ABC, CTV)

Sleepy Hollow

History plays into the new episode Pittura Infamante in a very specific way, since one of the central characters is Abigail Adams, played by guest star Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). She plays into the thoughts of Ichabod and Katrina (Tom Mison, Katia Winter) as they probe an art restorer’s death. Abbie (Nicole Beharie) is stunned by a visitor to the precinct. (Fox, Global)

Redwood Kings

Hired by a California farmer to create the ultimate roadside attraction for travellers, Ron and John face an extremely tight deadline when they design an authentic millhouse that pays homage to the state’s gold rush era, complete with a windmill-powered water mill. In a less stressful job for an animal lover, the brothers build a peasant-style cottage for rescued ducks in Gold Rush Roadhouse. (Discovery)

Movie: To Sir,

With Love

Sidney Poitier stars in this 1967 drama classic as an out-of-work engineer who takes a classroom gig strictly to pay the bills, yet still works wonders with his rude and defiant British pupils. The supporting cast includes Patricia Routledge, Judy Geeson (Mad About You) and pop icon Lulu, who also performs the unforgettable title song. (TCM)

Murdoch Mysteries

The great Gold Rush was a quick ticket to either a fast fortune or a violent death, as a land surveyor learns in a new episode called All That Glitters. The man’s murder prompts Murdoch and Crabtree (Yannick Bisson, Jonny Harris) to travel to Northern Ontario to investigate the crime. (CBC)
