The Saskatchewan Roughriders released 10 players on Tuesday, including national defensive tackle Brandon Tennant.

The Riders selected Tennant in the seventh round (59th overall) of the 2015 CFL draft out of the University of Laval. Tennant dressed for eight games in 2015, recording three defensive tackles and a sack.

Also released by the Riders was national running back Melvin Abankwah. The Riders selected Abankwah in the sixth round (50th overall) of the 2015 CFL draft out of Saint Mary’s University. Abankwah, who was released after the pre-season in 2015, was recently re-signed by the Riders.

Receiver Michael Campbell was among the eight internationals cut by the Riders, who now have 72 players on their active roster. The Riders acquired the rights to Campbell in the CFL’s waiver draft held in December. Campbell spent most of the 2015 season on the Ottawa Redblacks’ practice roster.

The other internationals released were: linebackers Denicos Allen, DeDe Lattimore and D.J. Lynch; offensive linemen Joseph Treadwell and Quinterrius Eatmon; defensive lineman Ryan Jones; and, defensive back Robert Sands.

Meanwhile, the CFL announced Tuesday that Roughriders head coach and general manager Chris Jones will be taking the Grey Cup to the 20th annual National Cornbread Festival in Tennessee.

The festival is being held Saturday and Sunday in Jones’ hometown of South Pittsburg, Tenn. In his second season as head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos, Jones guided them to a 26-20 win over the Redblacks in the 2015 Grey Cup game on Nov. 29.

On Dec. 8, Jones was introduced as the Riders’ general manager, head coach and vice-president of football operations.
