Prince’s family squabbles over hurt feelings — and money

- DOUG CAMILLI

There’s trouble in the royal family, the one in Minnesota. TMZ. com says Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson stomped out of a meeting with two half-siblings the other day, in a squabble over hurt feelings — and, apparently, money.

Tyka is the late singer’s full sister. There are, in all, five halfsiblings, USA Today explains with a helpful family tree. At this meeting Tyka and two of the half-brothers, Alfred Jackson and Omar Baker, talked for two hours, TMZ says, with Alf complaining about being excluded from that memorial Tyka organized.

TMZ says the brothers were also alarmed that Tyka wants more than her share of Prince’s estate, said to be at least US$150 million. Since he left no will, Minnesota law mandates an equal split among the six siblings, “but apparently Tyka doesn’t see it that way,” TMZ says.

Prince died April 21, age 57. Add Drake to the list of celebs with their own booze brands. The Toronto rapper is launching Virginia Black, a bourbon blend, this weekend in New York state, California and Nevada. Other markets will follow, Wine Enthusiast magazine says.

I hope the whiskey is better than the writing on the product’s website: “Glamour. Swagger. Soul. Decadence. Redefined. This is Virginia Black.” And why the “u” in glamour, on a U.S. product? I say we should be told!

The press release says this is “the first in a line of decadent expressions.”

Wine Enthusiast says this stuff will be “accessible to new spirits consumers.” That’s code for cheap, probably because many young Drake fans can’t afford $85 booze.
