The Saskatchewan Taekwon-Do Federation — creating champions for life
The mission of the Saskatchewan Taekwon-Do Federation International (STFI) is to promote the values, practice and philosophy of Taekwon-Do throughout Saskatchewan. STFI is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1984 by Master Clint Norman, with clubs in Regina, Saskatoon, Watson, Balgonie, Prince Albert, Humboldt and Anaheim. The STFI strives to follow the teachings of the late General Choi Hong Hi, the Founder of ITF Taekwon-Do.
“Most importantly, TaekwonDo teaches its students discipline, respect, manners, and concentration, based on the five tenets of Taekwon-Do which include courtesy, integrity, perseverance, selfcontrol, and indomitable spirit,” said Norman, an 8th Degree Black Belt who has been involved in Taekwon-Do for over 40 years. In his career, he has been a member of the Canadian National TaekwonDo team and was captain of the national team for four world championships.
Norman has been practicing Taekwon-Do since 1973, and today is one of six instructors teaching international instructors courses all over the world for the International Taekwon-Do Federation. To date, he has taught courses in Spain, Canada, the United States and Argentina.
As well as receiving the Outstanding Instructor Medal from the International Taekwon-Do Federation, Norman was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. He and the STFI have produced over 100 national champions since 1985.
The STFI offers courses in Taekwon-Do to people of all ages and levels of experience, including the Taekwon-Do Tigers program for three- to five-year-olds who want to learn the basic blocks, strikes and kicks of Taekwon-Do. These classes also teach good listening skills and respect, and are designed to be fun.
STFI has hosted numerous regional and national events in Regina. Saskatchewan athletes travel across Canada and all over the world to compete in international events.
Classes are offered for competitive and noncompetitive students and are designed for the whole family. For those who interested in trying out classes, the first three classes are free. For more information, phone 306-525-0005 or visit www.itfsaskatchewan.com.
The STFI is a member of Sask Sport. Members are recognized both locally and internationally for their excellence, so it is no surprise that they are committed to passing on their respect for and talent in the art of Taekwon-Do to future generations for many years to come.
