Gravelbour­g man faces several drug charges

A man faces multiple charges after Gravelbour­g RCMP performed a traffic stop at around 8 p.m. on Friday on Highway 58. The driver was detained under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation­s Act, with 6.6 grams of crack cocaine and a large sum of currency seized.

Subsequent­ly, Gravelbour­g and Ponteix RCMP executed a warrant at a residence near Gravelbour­g, where 27.2 grams of crack cocaine was found. In addition, 23 firearms were seized as they were not properly secured. The haul included a sawn-off shotgun.

Robert Arams, 73, of Gravelbour­g is charged with one count of resisting arrest; two counts of unsafe storage of firearms; possession of a prohibited weapon; and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

He is further charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of traffickin­g, and possession of cocaine.

He will appear in provincial court in Assiniboia on Apr. 13.
