Rush celebrate fifth straight victory

The Saskatchew­an Rush extended its winning streak to five games Saturday with an 8-7 National Lacrosse League victory over the Colorado Mammoth in Saskatoon.

The victory, before a sellout crowd of 15,047 at SaskTel Centre, gave the Rush a 5-2 record and a 11/2-game lead over Colorado (4-4) for first place in the West Division.

Next Saturday, the Rush return to action against the visiting Calgary Roughnecks (7:30 p.m.).

Graeme Fish of Moose Jaw won two bronze medals on the weekend at the Internatio­nal Skating Union world junior long-track speed-skating championsh­ips in Helsinki.

He was third in the men’s 5,000-metre and mass-start events.

Kaitlin Willoughby scored the winning goal as the University of Saskatchew­an Huskies defeated the visiting University of Regina Cougars 2-1 in Canada West women’s hockey playoff action Saturday in Saskatoon.

The Huskies swept a best-ofthree quarter-final series.

Willoughby had three goals Friday, when the host Huskies won the opener 4-3.

The Cougars men’s basketball team’s season ended Friday with an 88-80 loss to the University of Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg.

Manitoba swept a best-of-three Canada West play-in series.

Justus Alleyn led Manitoba with 20 points.

The Cougars’ top scorers were Brandon Tull (who had 19 points), Travis Sylvestre (13) and Johneil Johnson (13).

The Regina Rebels finished their regular season with a 15-8-2-3 record, good for fourth in the Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

The finale was on Sunday, when the Saskatoon Stars defeated the visiting Rebels 4-1. Ally Kosteniuk had the Rebels’ goal.

On Saturday, the Stars doubled the visiting Rebels 4-2. Samantha Sichkaruk and Emilia MacDougall scored for Regina.

Saskatoon finished with a league-best 25-2-0-1 record. The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats’ Taylor Lind led the league in goals (36) and points (58). Regina’s Kennedy Bobyck, who had 31 goals and 53 points, was second to Lind in both categories.
