Riders sign trio of international players
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the signings of three international free agents — receiver Bakari Grant, linebacker Glenn Love and defensive tackle Zach Minter — on Tuesday.
Grant, 29, spent five CFL seasons with the Hamilton TigerCats before signing with the Calgary Stampeders as a free agent in 2016. Last season, he dressed for 10 regular-season games, registering 44 receptions for 625 yards and four touchdowns.
Love, 27, spent the past four seasons with Calgary. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder registered 21 special-teams tackles — the third-highest total in the league.
Minter, 26, spent the 2016 season with the Stampeders. He had six defensive tackles and two sacks in five regular-season games.
Minter (6-foot-2 and 300 pounds) was with the B.C. Lions in 2015, when he had 16 defensive tackles and three sacks in 10 regular-season games.
Seattle Thunderbirds defenceman Ethan Bear, who is from Ochapowace, is the WHL’s player of the week. Bear had 10 points, including four goals, in five games.
Meanwhile, the Moose Jaw Warriors’ Zach Sawchenko is the WHL’s goaltender of the week.
