When it comes to discussing the impact of Chinese Medicine in Canada the results speak for themselves. Billions of people from around the world put their trust in a medical practice that’s more than 3,000 years old. And in Regina, hundreds of people eagerly await an appointment with Dr. Annie Wang, and her sister Betsy Wang.

After growing up in a family of Chinese Medicine practitioners, Dr. Wang and her sister Betsy decided at an early age to continue the family legacy. In 1987, Annie Wang graduated from Norman Bethune College of Medicine of Jilin University learning both Western and Chinese medicine. After working for a number of years in China and later in Toronto, Annie and Betsy moved to Regina five years ago. Together they work closely with many organizations such as The Acupuncture Association of Canada, and are Registered Massage Therapists (RMT). Hundreds of people in Regina have nothing but praise for the work of the Wang sisters. People might not know exactly how their methods work, but the results speak for themselves.

Michelle M., a patient of Dr. Wang offers this testimonial: “My husband and I were struggling to get pregnant for a few years.

After unsuccessful medical approach, I decided to go for traditional medicine but wanted an authentic Chinese acupuncturist so I searched the internet and found Annie.

I have never tried acupuncture before and was very worried but Annie made me comfortable. Annie is friendly, approachable and very accommodating. She explained to me the possible reasons of infertility and how acupuncture works. Her approach was holistic. She examined me thoroughly before the initial session. Needles are very fine and most don’t hurt at all.

Once treatment began, I was completely at ease and felt incredibly relaxed. I kept coming to Annie because I liked her professionalism, passion and expertise in acupuncture. Her office is very tranquil, comfortable, and clean. At the end of each sessions, I always feel energized and refreshed. After about 8 sessions of acupuncture, coupled with diet change and exercise as per her advice, I got pregnant! I think even Annie was surprised how quickly I’ve seen results. It was a healthy pregnancy.

I consulted her again before I gave birth, as I was a few days past my due date, and after two sessions of acupuncture, that’s 48 hours later, I gave birth naturally to a healthy baby girl!! So acupuncture really works and Annie is such an excellent therapist and a wonderful person. Highly recommended!”

Don Wiks, a patient of Dr. Wang offers this testimonial: “I did not believe in acupuncture until I tried it and got wonderful results. After an operation involving a spinal tap my feet felt like fire and I could hardly walk and I had great pain. After trying many methods for relief, I found help from only one acupuncture treatment. I got great relief and could walk some distance. I now swear by Dr. Annie’s acupuncture treatment and use it often to have better allround health. I am sure that she will be able to help you too.”

“I like to take care of people,” says Dr. Annie Wang. “Many people don’t realize that Chinese medicine is a philosophy, and a culture. I didn’t always see it that way. When I was younger I was more interested in Western medicine. Things like surgery were miraculous in how it solves many health problems. As I became older I started understanding the benefits of healing people from a natural way— a more traditional way that focuses on preventative medicine. Surgery is a traumatic experience and drugs can be poison to the human body. Today, I am dedicated to treating people as naturally as possible.”

This includes a wide array of treatments that focus on the pathways of the body, referred to as meridians. When these pathways are blocked the body begins to feel unbalanced allowing for a variety of illnesses to occur. Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, cupping, massage, and aromatherapy all help to alleviate these blockages allowing for a person’s immune system to gain strength, balance and heal naturally.

“When someone comes and sees me I ask them what the problem is, and when was the first time they remembered their symptoms. I look at the whole body to understand the problem. The cheeks, tongue, eyes, pulse, and even smell all tell me which systems are weak. My practice is about nourishing the body and balancing it,” explains Dr. Wang.

Acupuncture helps address a variety of medical issues such as acute pain, fatigue, depression, tendonitis, insomnia, sciatica, digestive disorders, allergies, MS, arthritis, infertility, and that’s just to name a few. Acupuncture also has cosmetic benefits as well. Dr. Wang has created a 12 session anti-aging program that rejuvenates the face reduces acne, eczema, and pigmentation. The treatment is broken into five parts that address dietary concerns, medical history, acupuncture to the face and body, facial massages, and a regiment of prescribed herbs. Combine that with her Chinese meridian herbal facial that detoxifies, balances internal organs, and nourishes the whole body.

As an RMT, Annie and Betsy offer more advanced massage services than others in their field. Gau Sha and Cupping are healing techniques that help open the energy pathways in the body to promote natural healing. By administering these deep tissue treatments blood flows more freely, which addresses issues with muscle tension, circulatory problems and can even relieve breathing problems such as asthma.

Between herbal remedies, various massage techniques and acupuncture Dr. Wang can treat more than a hundred medical conditions.

“Three months ago I treated someone with a tumor who had trouble sleeping, and was also going through menopause. After a thorough assessment she was also suffering from constipation. These are all related to a blockage in her digestive system. By focusing on the digestive system line in her body I was able to help her sleep better, she could better manage her menopause, and her tumor was gone in only six treatments. This is the result of treating the whole body. I’ve also treated people who were loosing hair, and after improving their immune system their hair grew back. I can also treat diabetes through acupuncture. People who suffer from something as simple as chronic cold hands and feet can have their circulatory system improved after a few sessions,” says Dr. Wang.

Many of Dr. Wang’s services are covered by health insurance plans. For more information visit her website www.tcm-acupuncture-regina.ca. To book an appointment call 306-351- 2753.
