Saskatoon nominated as one of Canada’s top tourist destinations
Saskatoon is vying for the title of USA Today’s Best Destination in Canada after the city was nominated Tuesday alongside 19 other places.
Six Canadian travel writers chose the nominees for USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel awards contest, from among destinations such as Banff, Alta., Montreal, Charlottetown, Niagara Falls, Ont., Tofino, B.C., and Ottawa.
The contest describes Saskatoon as “a young and vibrant city” known for being “a hub of country and rock ’n’ roll music.” The city is described as a four-season destination most popular in the summer
because the long days are “perfect for exploring river trails or attending one of 40 summer events.”
The nomination “shows that our city is truly making a name for itself as a great place to explore,” Aviva Kohen, Tourism Saskatoon’s media director, said in a statement. “Getting named as one of the top 10 in USA Today would be a true honour and help us continue to grow the travel industry in Saskatoon.”
Saskatoon is at the top of the leaderboard, followed by St. John’s and Montreal, but will only stay on top if people continue to vote. Anyone can vote every day until the contest closes at 10 a.m. on June 19.
The 10 top destinations will be announced at 10 a.m. on June 23 and will be featured in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers Choice Awards.
Other parts of Saskatchewan were also nominated in other categories, including Best National Park in Canada — Grasslands National Park and Prince Albert National Park are nominated.
Prince Albert National Park also received a nomination in the Best Cottage Region in Canada category.
