Vince Young’s comeback attempt could be on hold after an innocentlooking play on Tuesday.

The ex-NFL quarterback pulled a hamstring while running offtackle during a scrimmage at the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ training camp. Young, 34, pulled up on the sideline before collapsing to the ground.

The Riders’ medical staff attended to Young and he walked to the locker-room without any assistance. He didn’t return after leaving the practice field.

Chris Jones, the Riders’ head coach and general manager, said it looked like Young had injured a hamstring. Jones added that he would know more about the severity of the injury after meeting Tuesday afternoon with the team’s medical staff. An update may be provided after Wednesday’s practice.

“Anytime you’re trying to evaluate quarterbacks and one gets hurt, it’s never a positive,’’ Jones said.

Young is attempting to resurrect his football career despite not having taken a regular-season snap since 2011, when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. He retired from professional football in the spring of 2014 after being cut by the Cleveland Browns.

Young, who signed with the Riders on March 9, has been inconsistent through training camp but had avoided any injuries until Tuesday.

“(Injuries) are a concern with any quarterback that moves around in the pocket,’’ Jones said.

“Unfortunately for Vince, he took off (Tuesday) and ended up pulling his hamstring.’’

Jones didn’t know if the hamstring injury would keep Young out of Saturday’s pre-season opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium.

There may be another pivot on the way because the Riders have been in contact with Jake Heaps, who signed with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks after a strong showing at the Riders’ mini-camp in Vero Beach, Fla.

Heaps was released by the Seahawks on Monday.
