Local senior establishe­s five world records

Carol LaFayette-Boyd of Regina set five world records in the women’s 75-79 age category on the weekend at the Saskatchew­an track and field championsh­ips, held at the Canada Games Athletics Complex.

She establishe­d marks in the long jump (3.85 metres), high jump (1.23m), 100m (15.15 seconds), 200m (32.83) and triple jump (distance unavailabl­e at source).

As well, Selena Coward of Regina set a Canadian record in the women’s 60-64 shot put. The distance was unavailabl­e at source.

The provincial men’s and women’s fours playoffs were held on the weekend at the Regina Lawn Bowling Club.

In the women’s final, Jean Roney, Anita Nivala, Jordan Kos and Fran Scott defeated Harriette Pituley, Janice Robson, Lorraine Schneider and Rachel Larson 23-21. Scott and Larson are from Saskatoon. The other six bowlers in the match are from Regina.

Vi McPherson, Jo Urquhart and Janet Watson — all of Regina — and Eileen McLelland of Saskatoon placed third.

In the deciding match of the final, Mark Sutyla and Ernie Meid ( both of Regina), Doug Propp (Saskatoon) and Ian Jones (Arcola) defeated Jon Pituley and Murray Pituley (both of Regina) and Alex Scott and Grant Wilkie (both of Saskatoon) 17-16.

The Regina team of Garth Zummack, Jordan Gailey, Bryon McMillan and Mason Boyd placed third.

The winning teams will represent Saskatchew­an at the Canadian championsh­ips, to be held in Victoria in August. The Saints swept a doublehead­er in the Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n on Monday at Douglas Park, defeating Elite Auto Body (8-1) and the Mystics (16-2).

Lindsay O’Watch was the winning pitcher against Elite Auto Body. In the latter game, winning pitcher Landace McClughan received offensive support from Meme Goodwill, who homered.

Also on Monday, Sleek defeated the Lumsden Cubs 5-3, Krista Heisler got the win as the Vipers defeated the Fusion 9-1, and the Edge edged Elite Auto Body 4-3.

Regina Optimist Dolphins swimmers Noah Choboter and Brian Palaschuk are competing at the 2017 Mare Nostrum Swim Tour.

The Tour consists of events in Monaco (last Friday and Saturday), Barcelona (Tuesday and Wednesday) and Canet-en-Roussillon, France (Saturday and Sunday). Choboter and Palaschuk are in the latter two events.

On Tuesday in Barcelona, Choboter was second in the men’s 50m backstroke B final and fourth in the 200m backstroke B final. Palaschuk was 20th in the men’s 50m backstroke and 22nd in the 400m freestyle.

Stuart Bellegarde hit two home runs to help the Little Black Bear Blues defeat the Muskowekwa­n Pride 14-9 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Monday at Rambler Park. Jason Wesaquate homered for the Blues in support of winning pitcher Keltin Cyr, who struck out six in six innings. Also on Monday, the Best Buds got a home run from Ron Peigan en route to defeating the Piapot Padres 10-8. Tony Cappo was the winning pitcher.

The Regina Red Sox are to play host to the Melville Millionair­es in Western Major Baseball League action Wednesday, 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.
