Standing Buffalo wins Queen City midget boys title

Fighting Sioux set their sights on the box lacrosse provincial championsh­ip

The Standing Buffalo Fighting Sioux defeated the Regina Rush 3-0 on Sunday in the Queen City Minor Box Lacrosse midget boys gold-medal game.

In the bronze-medal game, the Estevan Thunder defeated the Regina Honey Badgers 8-7 in overtime.

Standing Buffalo and the Rush have advanced to the provincial championsh­ips, July 7-9 in Prince Albert.

In the QCMBL’s pee wee division, the Mustangs finished first, followed by the Rush and the Voltz. The Rush won the bantam division, followed by the Mustangs White and the Snipers.

The QCMBL’s Regina Rifles won the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League’s junior division.

Canada is to play the United States on Friday for the gold medal at the IFAF world women’s football championsh­ip in Langley, B.C.

Canada advanced to the final by defeating Great Britain 35-0 on Tuesday.

Aimee Kowalski, who quarterbac­ks the Western Women’s Canadian Football League’s Regina Riot, threw three first-half touchdown passes for Canada. She completed 10 of 14 passes for 219 yards.

Artemis Kouropoulo­u, also of the Riot, had a quarterbac­k sack for Canada.

The Regina Red Sox scored eight runs in the first two innings en route to defeating the Weyburn Beavers 10-4 in Western Major Baseball League action Wednesday at Tom Laing Park.

Austin Alarid was the winning pitcher. Aden Campbell had a homer and four RBI for the Red Sox, who got three hits and an RBI from Derek Slate.

The Red Sox host the Swift Current 57’s on Friday, 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field. Swift Current was to play in Regina on Thursday night.

The Bulyea Rustlers rebounded from a 6-2 deficit and defeated the NB Petro Hawks 7-6 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Tuesday. Bulyea scored three runs in the seventh and final inning.

Josh Jordan had two home runs for Bulyea. Terrell Walker, Josh Montana and Hyland Poitras homered for the Hawks.

Also on Tuesday, the Moose Jaw Canadians got home runs from Dane Roy, Kent Barber and Derek Owens in a 12-10 victory over the Moose Jaw Giants, who got homers from Darryl Callaghan and Jay Sills.

Meanwhile, Silver Screen Sportswear defeated the Muskowekwa­n Pride 21-2. Evan Graff and Dustin Thiel homered for Silver Screen.

Canada’s best 5-pin bowlers are slated to be in Regina Friday to Monday for the 50th annual Master Bowlers Associatio­n of Canada national championsh­ips.

The event takes place at the three major bowling centres in Regina: Golden Mile, Glencairn and Nortown.

Meme Goodwill hit a grand slam for the Saints in their 8-0 Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n victory over the Fusion on Wednesday. Landace McClughan was the winning pitcher.

Also on Wednesday at Douglas Park, the Vipers swept a doublehead­er, edging Ochapowace 12-11 before doubling the Thunder 126. Geneen Sparvier had two home runs for Ochapowace.

The Prairie Grand beach volleyball tournament is to be held July 2931 on the courts at Regina Rugby Park.

There will be competitio­n in mixed fours and mixed sixes.

The host team from Deer Valley defeated Royal Regina 103-87 on Wednesday in the RAMP matchplay golf competitio­n.

Victorious golfers from Deer Valley were John Greenough, Josh Whitrow, Rob Vaughn, Tom Kellett, Dale Eisworth and Bob Friesen,

Larry Wagman, Rod Stice and Jack Sures registered victories for the Royal Regina.

Keith Brown (Royal Regina) and Ken Buhnai (Deer Valley) played to a draw.
