Red Sox begin home stand on Monday

The Regina Red Sox are to begin a three-game home stand Monday against the Weyburn Beavers.

The Western Major Baseball League game is set for 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.

Regina will then play host to the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games are slated for 7:05 p.m. On Sunday, the 19-9 Sox had an evening game in Moose Jaw.

On Friday, the Yorkton Cardinals defeated the visiting Red Sox 6-2 as winning pitcher Bryson Spagnuolo improved his record to 3-0.

Jake Davidson had three hits and an RBI for Yorkton, which got two hits from Bryce Mulcahy and Donovan Buechs. Jordan Schulz had two of Regina’s five hits. Saskatchew­an defeated New Brunswick 37-1 on Saturday at the Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, N.S. QB Josh Donnelly, from Regina, completed 16 of 21 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns — to Adam LaBrash, Emmett Steadman and Tanner Szakacs.

Donnelly, Saskatchew­an’s offensive player of the game, rushed for a major. Daniel Okpoko was defensive player of the game.

Saskatchew­an returns to action Tuesday in a semifinal against Ontario. Alberta and Quebec will meet in the other semi.

Six members of the Regina Piranhas finished in the top three in their age groups at the Assiniboia Invitation­al Summer Swim Meet on Saturday. Adrien Lapierre ( boys 9-10 division) and Josie Sylvestre (girls 15-17) won gold medals.

Piranhas swimmers Blake Swetlikoff (boys 13-14), Jill Moser (girls 7-8) and Jane Moser (girls 9-10) won silver medals. Elizabeth Johnson (girls 11-12) earned a bronze.
