Versailles
Featuring both historical and fictional storylines and characters, the co-production between Canada, the U.K. and France returns for a second season telling the tale of the Machiavellian King Louis XIV. In season 2, it’s 1671 and Louis (George Blagden) has completed the first phase of his construction project. Surrounded by corruption, greed and lewd behaviour, he watches his dream crumble and loses his sense of purpose as the nobility start to turn against him. Blinded by his love for his favourite courtesan, Madame de Montespan (Anna Brewster), Louis remains deaf to the church’s injunctions and the greatest enemy that stands before him. (The Movie Network)
