The RCMP, Regina Police Service and Regina Fire and Protective Services all responded to a crash involving a car and semi on Highway 46 on Wednesday morning.

The collision happened west of Prince of Wales Drive at approximately 7 a.m.

Witnesses said they saw a woman in the car who appeared to be in her late 20s or early 30s, and that she was taken away in an ambulance. The front of the car, a Nissan Sentra, was heavily damaged and the airbags were deployed. Debris from the car was strewn over the road. Westbound traffic on Highway 46 was shut down while police investigated the scene.

Jeff Lorencz, a Cupar resident, was travelling eastbound behind the semi on his way to work in Pilot Butte and witnessed the crash.

“(The car) basically come across the centre line very slowly but when I first I looked up I couldn’t even believe my eyes,” he said.

The car then hit the front axel of the semi.

“The front of the car come completely apart as you can see there. All the bags, everything went off and there was just debris flying everywhere. So I hit the ditch,” he said.

Lorencz made it out of the ditch safely.

Amber Davidowich was driving down a gravel road headed to Highway 46 when she saw the car swerving on the road before it turned onto the highway.

“She was going left to right and I honked my horn at her probably twice,” said Davidowich.

Davidowich took out her phone and began recording video of the car, which she said appeared to be speeding. When she turned onto Highway 46 she saw that the same vehicle had been involved in the crash, and pulled over.

Davidowich used a blanket she had to help the woman in the vehicle stay warm. She reached in the car to try to turn the engine off, but because it was a push-to-start she was unable to.

When she reached into the car Davidowich said she saw a can of Twisted Tea, an alcoholic beverage.

“There was lots of liquid spilled all over the inside,” said Davidowich.

Davidowich said the woman was conscious and told another woman who was helping her that she was on her way to Fort Qu’Appelle.

“She was kind of leaning in and out like she wanted to close her eyes and stop talking, and another lady that was a first responder, I think just had first aid or something, she was talking with her and keeping her awake until EMS got here,” Davidowich.

Police officers on scene could also be seen searching the vehicle and smelling cans that they had removed from it.
