Payout to Khadr is disgusting

-

The events of last week have made me disgusted with our federal politicians. I am sick and tired of hearing how former child soldier Omar Khadr deserved $10.5 million. The parents of this so-called child raised him to build bombs and kill the infidels when the opportunity arose. To me, a child soldier is someone who is kidnapped and forced to fight either through the use of drugs, alcohol or coercion. This was not Khadr’s situation.

When Ralph Goodale issued the apology and tried to blame it on the Harper government he must have forgotten the Liberals were in power when Khadr was initially interned in Guantanamo Bay and for a number of years thereafter. I don’t recall them making any objections or efforts to have him returned to Canada. By the time he was returned to Canada he had pleaded guilty to a number of charges with a lengthy prison sentence ahead of him.

Very quickly a lawsuit was launched over alleged violations of his Charter rights. While the Supreme Court ruled his rights had been violated, they never did indicate he should be compensated monetarily.

Since his lawsuit was seeking $20 million, the Liberals would have us believe we got off lightly only giving him $10.5 million. I would rather have them spend any amount of money fighting his rights to a single dollar.

While giving this terrorist killer $10.5 million is a travesty, the Liberals do not stop here, rather they collaborate with his lawyers to get the money into his hands before the widow of the dead soldier could file the necessary paperwork to seize any payment that came his way.

When Justin Trudeau came to power he said we were entering a new era of openness and there would be no more backroom deals or words to that effect.

Well if that is what we have, I have already had enough of him and his band of doubledealing cronies. Michael K. Spurgeon, Regina
