Red Sox to host Melville on Sunday

The Regina Red Sox are to return to Currie Field on Sunday, 2:05 p.m., against the Melville Millionair­es in Western Major Baseball League action.

Regina was to visit the Yorkton Cardinals on Friday night.

On Thursday, the Weyburn Beavers scored three first-inning runs en route to defeating the Red Sox 4-2 at Tom Laing Park.

Ryan Johnson earned the pitching decision over Jordan Scott. Eric Evans got the save.

Luis Jimenez, Zach Mathis and Evan Weidner combined for seven hits and all four Weyburn runs.

Broderick Rodocker plated Regina’s runs with his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot. He has 43 RBI this season. Aden Campbell added three hits for the Red Sox.

The 97th annual Regina Ladies Open Golf Championsh­ip is slated for Monday and Tuesday.

Round 1 is to be played at the Murray Municipal Golf Course, with tee times ranging from 8 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Tuesday’s closing round, at the Tor Hill Golf Course, is to begin with crossover tee times at 10:15 a.m., on the east and north courses.

Fifty-nine golfers are expected to participat­e.

Jeff Weekes, Ryley Almasi and Kyle Ward homered for the Moose Jaw Canadians in their 14-8 Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League victory over the Pasqua A’s on Thursday.

Blake Dixon earned the pitching decision over Wacey Strongeagl­e.

In Thursday’s other game at Rambler Park, winning pitcher Brandon Bailey struck out eight in four innings and helped his cause with a home run as the Earl Grey Rockets defeated the Muskowekwa­n Pride 13-3.

Devin Kress also homered for Earl Grey.

The Regina Rugby Union had women’s sevens matches Thursday at Regina Rugby Park.

The scores were: Regina Rage 29, Regina Condors 21; Regina Rogues 31, Rage 5; and Rogues 43, Condors 0.

In a men’s Division 2 match, the Regina Highlander­s edged the Regina Condors 31-29.
