A man is dead after being hit by a vehicle in Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood Tuesday morning.

The man’s body was covered with a blanket and was lying in the northbound lane of Winnipeg Street which was closed off to traffic between 11th and 12th Avenue most of the morning.

Police and EMS responded to the incident at 8:06 a.m.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. As of Tuesday afternoon, his family had not yet been notified. There were approximately 10 police vehicles on scene, and the area where the collision occurred was taped off.

A hat and shoe could be seen lying on the ground near the man’s body. A trail of blood was also next to the body.

Forensics officers and investigators could be seen examining the scene.

Police were interviewing a man parked on Winnipeg Street who later drove away. A woman was also being interviewed.

Police believe the collision was between a vehicle and pedestrian, but could not confirm if the vehicle involved had been located.

No vehicles within the taped off area appeared to have been involved.

Police spokesman Les Parker said no one was in custody related to the investigation.

“We’re trying to get all the answers we can before we can release anything,” Parker told media Tuesday morning.

Two blocks east of the scene, officers were inspecting the tires of a truck in an alley.

The portion of the alley was sealed off with police tape after 9 a.m. The truck belonged to Reginabased Ryko Telecommunications.

Blair Russell, a co-owner at Ryko, confirmed Tuesday afternoon by phone that he had been made aware by police that one of their vehicles was involved in an incident in the morning, but would not comment on the specific nature of the incident.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-7776500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800222-8477.
