Red Sox ready to host Fort McMurray

Regina extended winning streak by defeating Moose Jaw Express 10-3

The Regina Red Sox are to play host to the Fort McMurray Giants on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m., at Currie Field.

Regina carried a 24-12 record — good for a first-place tie with the Swift Current 57’s in the Eastern Division — into Tuesday’s Western Major Baseball League home game against Fort McMurray.

On Monday, Regina extended its winning streak to three games by defeating the visiting Moose Jaw Miller Express 10-3. Broderick Rodocker had his eighth homer of the season for the Red Sox.

Dakota Fedak pitched a completega­me four-hitter, striking out 13, as the Regina Trappers defeated the Regina Jays 13-3 in Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League action Monday at Optimist Park.

The Trappers’ Jordan Dezotell went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Also on Monday, the Bethune Bucs defeated the Strasbourg Expos 14-1. Eric Warren registered a complete-game victory, striking out seven, without allowing an earned run. Warren received offensive support from Lee Forsberg, who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

J.J. Poitras struck out 11 in six innings to help the NB Petro Hawks defeat Chetty’s Pretty Boys 6-2 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Monday. Travis Walker homered for the Hawks.

Also on Monday at Rambler Park, Donnell Watetch homered for the Piapot Wolfpack in their 10-9 victory over the Piapot Padres.

Jackie Rieger homered to help the Saints defeat the Mystics 12-5 in Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n playoff action Monday. Lindsay O’Watch was the winning pitcher.

Also on Monday at Douglas Park, it was: Vipers 16, Elite Auto Body 4; Thunder 13, Diamondbac­ks 6; and Fusion 13, Raiders 6.

Regina’s Jaxen Dufour had four goals and two assists Monday to help Saskatchew­an defeat Wisconsin 20-1 in under-19 boys lacrosse action at the North American Indigenous Games, which are based in Toronto.

Saskatoon kayaker Jarret Kenke is the Sask Sport Inc. athlete of the month for June. Also considered were Jessica Frotten of Regina (athletics) and Sam Fisher of Bruno (Special Olympics swimming).

Blake Swetlikoff of the Regina Piranhas won the boys 13-14 aggregate title at the Weyburn Invitation­al Summer Swim Meet on Saturday.

The Piranhas’ Josie Sylvestre earned a silver medal in the girls 15-17 division. Piranhas swimmers Adrien Lapierre (boys 9-10) and Jane Moser (girls 9-10) earned bronze medals.

Tyler Wright of Regina had a fivestroke lead after Tuesday’s second round of the Saskatchew­an amateur men’s golf championsh­ip in Yorkton.

Wright was at 5-under-par 139 after 36 holes. Round 3 is slated for Wednesday.
