After the printed version of the fall leisure guide was nixed by city council in the amended budget in April, residents who want to know what is happening on the recreational side of things in Regina will need to go online beginning July 26.

“We urge anyone interested in the leisure guide to sign up for our leisure guide reminders at regina.ca/leisureguide,” said Melissa Coderre, co-ordinator of business services and community services. “(The guide) is a wonderful way for families to experience the great programming that the City of Regina has to offer.”

The elimination of the printed fall leisure guide saved the city $40,000 in one-time savings. The decision was made after the city lost $10.3 million in funding from the provincial government after the province released its 2017-18 budget.

The guide, which has been online for more than a decade on the City of Regina’s website, is still available in select locations throughout the city for anyone who does not have access to the internet.

“The print copies will no longer be distributed to houses across Regina,” said Coderre.

“The City of Regina will have a limited number of print copies available for viewing at all recreation facilities and Regina Public Library branches. (Residents) can check the guides out and make photocopies.”

While the guide does not exist as an app that can be downloaded, it is available in both mobile and desktop versions.

“It is available in both Flash and HTML5 on mobile devices,” Coderre said.

“It is also an online website if you are accessing it through a traditional desktop.”

The city will be looking at how successful the online-only version of the leisure guide is with residents, and will make a decision on whether to continue with the practice for its two other leisure guides published through the year.

Residents who sign up before July 31 will be entered to win several prizes, including the ability to pre-register their kids for activities earlier than others on registration day on Aug. 8.
