‘Humbled’ Tuer to enter Sask. hockey hall

Graham Tuer is looking forward to touring his hometown.

The Regina-based Tuer is to be formally inducted into the Saskatchew­an Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder Saturday in North Battleford, where he spent the first 21 years of his life.

“I’m humbled — I truthfully am,” said Tuer, 87. “I’m proud and I’m really happy that Regina has given me the opportunit­ies that it has given me. The hockey world has been so good to me as well.”

Tuer has contribute­d to minor and junior hockey as a volunteer, administra­tor, general manager and scout for more than 50 years.

Tuer and Rosetown-born Stan Dunn are to enter the shrine as builders.

Three people will be inducted as players — Eddie Litzenberg­er (who was born in Neudorf), Bob Bourne (Kindersley) and Fiona Smith-Bell (Edam).

Ken Wheler (Battleford) will be enshrined as an official.

Two teams will enter the hall — the 1983-84 Wilkie Outlaws and 2000-01 Lloydminst­er Border Kings.

In the grassroots category, the Northwest Hockey Developmen­t Associatio­n — based in the Battleford­s area — will be honoured.

Dunn and Litzenberg­er are to be inducted posthumous­ly.

The Moose Jaw Giants scored two seventh-inning runs to defeat the Regina Gold 7-6 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Tuesday.

The game included home runs by Joe MacDonald (Giants) and Joe Burnett (Gold).

Also on Tuesday at Rambler Park, Dwayne Redman Jr., had 11 strikeouts in six innings to power the Standing Buffalo Dakotas to a 10-1 victory over the Little Black Bear Blues. Randall Sparvier and Neigel Bear homered for Standing Buffalo.

Lorraine Schneider of Regina and Charlie Taylor of Saskatoon are to represent Saskatchew­an in singles competitio­n at the Canadian indoor lawn bowling championsh­ips, to be held in Vancouver in November.

Carter Watson (men) and Jordon Kos (women), both of Regina, are to attend the Canadian outdoor singles championsh­ips in Winnipeg in September.

Ontario defeated Saskatchew­an 7-4 on Tuesday in the under-16 Eastern Challenge football tournament in Wolfville, N.S. Saskatchew­an is to meet New Brunswick on Friday in the bronze-medal game.

Mitch Nielsen scored three runs and drove in three to lead the Regina Trappers to a 14-2 victory over the Regina Rangers in Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League action Tuesday at Optimist Park.

Also on Tuesday, the Regina Wolfpack beat the Regina A’s 11-0.

Tyler Wright of the Wascana Country Club had a one-stroke lead heading into Thursday’s final round of the Saskatchew­an amateur men’s golf title in Yorkton.

Woods was at 6-under-par 210 after three rounds. Defendingc­hampion Justin Wood, from Unity, was one stroke off the pace. Danny Klughart of Prince Albert was third at 213.

The Regina White Sox are the Baseball Regina peewee AAA champions.
