Three city residents reach the podium

The Okotoks Dawgs became the first Western Major Baseball League team to reach the 30-win mark this season, courtesy of Sunday’s 10-5 victory over the host Regina Red Sox.

Regina carried a 27-14 record into Monday’s road game against the Swift Current 57’s. Regina and Swift Current are battling for the Eastern Division title.

Phil Langlois and Conner Reynolds each had two hits for the Red Sox on Sunday. Reynolds added two RBI.

Regina’s next two games are on the road — Wednesday against the Moose Jaw Miller Express and Thursday versus the Weyburn Beavers.

The Red Sox then play a Friday doublehead­er against Swift Current. Game 1 is slated for 6 p.m., at Currie Field. Both games will be seven innings.

On Saturday, the Red Sox visit Swift Current before completing their regular-season schedule Sunday, 2:05 p.m., against the visiting Melville Millionair­es.

Three Reginans earned podium

finishes in their age groups at the Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Calgary on Sunday.

Jacqueline Hatherly (women’s 50-54) and Thea Jacobs (women’s 60-64) won their respective age groups. Marie Kralovcova was second in the women’s 30-34 division.

Hatherly, Jacobs and Kralovcova earned age-group spots in the 2018 Ironman 70.3 world championsh­ips.

The Ironman 70.3 is half the distance of a full Ironman race, with athletes swimming 1.9 kilometres, cycling 90km and running 21.1km. Stanley Cooley of Regina, who plays for the Notre Dame Hounds, scored both goals for Selects Hockey Developmen­t in its 2-0, championsh­ip game victory over Pro Skills Hockey at the Junior Chowder Cup tournament in Foxboro, Mass., on Sunday.

Regina’s Landon Kosior played for the New Jersey-based Hockey Essential All-Stars, who went undefeated in the round robin before losing 1-0 to Boston Kearns in a playoff game Sunday.

Brandon Watson and Lois Kos, both of Regina, won the Saskatchew­an mixed pairs lawn bowling tournament Sunday in Saskatoon.

The Regina duo of Carter Watson and Janet Watson was third.

The Weyburn A’s won the Saskatchew­an Baseball Associatio­n’s under-21 (junior) title on the weekend at Optimist Park.

The A’s defeated the Saskatoon Hoppers 8-7 in the final. Cole Rathgaber was 2-for-3 with three RBI for Weyburn. A’s teammate Shane Soderberg was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Both finalists advance to the Western Canada under-21 championsh­ip, to be held in Brandon in August.

Chetty’s Pretty Boys, from

Ochapowace, won the Saskatchew­an senior-A men’s fastball championsh­ip Sunday in Saskatoon.

The Pretty Boys, a member of the Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League, defeated Bruno 8-6 in the final.

Silver Screen, also of the Rambler Park League, was second at the provincial senior C championsh­ip for the second consecutiv­e season. The Saskatoon Cubs defeated Silver Screen 5-0 in the final. Silver Screen had a 5-1 record at the tournament. The Regina Piranhas competed in invitation­al summer swim meets in Swift Current and Gravelbour­g on the weekend.

In Swift Current on Saturday, Jane Moser (girls 9-10 division) and Blake Swetlikoff (boys 13-14) won gold in their age groups, based on aggregate points. Samantha Thompson (girls 13-14) and Josie Sylvestre (girls 15-17) won silver. Luke Binns (boys 9-10) and Gavriel Moroz ( boys 11-12) earned bronze.

Swetlikoff, Sylvestre and Jill Moser (girls 7-8) won gold medals Sunday in Gravelbour­g. Jane Moser and Isabella Ash (girls 7-8) received bronze medals.
