- HEATHER POLISCHUK

A 34-year-old man is facing a range of firearms charges, including an allegation he pointed a shotgun at a member of the Regina Police Service.

According to information from city police, officers were dispatched at 1:34 p.m. on Friday to a complaint about a domestic disturbance at a residence on the 700 block of Rae Street.

Callers reported hearing a female screaming and a witness said she had been hit in the face.

Two officers arrived and found a woman holding a small child. The woman left the house and police heard a male yelling from a bedroom.

One of the officers tried to negotiate with the man, but he allegedly pointed a long-barrelled gun at that officer and retreated back into the bedroom.

Officers left the house and waited for backup to arrive.

At that point, the same officer was able to persuade the man to leave the house, and placed him under arrest.

Police said they found a loaded shotgun inside.

The woman is not believed to have suffered any serious physical injuries.

The man made his first appearance at Regina provincial court on Monday where he is facing nine charges, including common assault and pointing a shotgun at the officer.

The Crown opposed his release and is proceeding by indictment, the more serious way of prosecuting a charge.

The man said he wanted to speak with someone from Legal Aid and his charges were set over to Wednesday.
