Goodale implored to settle case

-

I am writing to applaud MP Ralph Goodale’s July 18 article titled “Khadr settlement tests Canada’s commitment to human rights.”

It has long been clear to those in our coalition that there has been little commitment to human rights in Canada for a very long time. People from other countries have been presented with the facade of human rights in Canada only to later find that most of the protection in this country is for those who are oppressing human rights. One needs only to observe the horrendous human rights abuses of the citizens of our First Nations to quickly realize that some peoples’ human rights are viewed as less important than others.

Our coalition has been assisting Canadian scientist Dr. Chander Grover to finally realize his human rights in his three-decade-old racial discrimination case against the National Research Council. It is estimated that the Canadian government has been allowed to waste more than $60 million to deny Dr. Grover justice.

MP Goodale, who has assisted with this case in the past, has stated that Dr. Grover’s case can no longer be settled in the courts and that it will require a political solution. Now that Mr. Goodale is in a position to have this case settled, we ask him to act with commitment to settle this sickening case of a breach of Dr. Grover’s human rights.
