Regina’s Rodgers in command at tourney

Ken Rodgers of Regina had a fivestroke lead after the first round of the Saskatchew­an senior men’s golf championsh­ip in Lloydminst­er.

Rodgers, of Tor Hill, shot a 3-under-par 69 over the first 18 holes on Tuesday. Dave Wilson of North Battleford was second at 74, one stroke ahead of Rick Ledingham (Wascana Country Club) and Keith Silvernagl­e (Biggar). At the provincial senior women’s championsh­ip, also in Lloydminst­er, Jo-Anne Schiller of the host course held the first-round lead after shooting an 84.

Amanda Dacey homered for Elite Auto Body on Monday in its 9-2 Regina Ladies Softball Associatio­n playoff victory over the Mystics.

Olivia Hynd was the winning pitcher in the Division 2 game.

Also on Monday at Douglas Park, Mehgan Shaw got the win as the Vipers defeated the Saints 15-4 and winning pitcher Geneen Sparvier led Ochapowace to a 14-3 victory over the Thunder. Muriel Goodwill homered for the Saints.

On Tuesday, Madison Gerome got the win as the Sleek defeated Extreme Wheat Country 5-2. Also on Tuesday, the Lumsden Cubs defeated the Rampage 8-6 and the Kaos beat the Earl Grey Heat 5-3.

Tyrell Shulko went 3-for-5 with three RBI and also pitched three effective innings of relief to help the Regina Dodgers defeat the Bethune Bucs 10-5 in Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League action Monday at Optimist Park. The Bucs’ Andrew Baron was 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI.

On Tuesday, the Regina Blue Jays got two doubles and an RBI from Tyler McWhirter en route to defeating the Arm River Indians 6-3, and Nolan Bracken drove in three runs for the Regina Trappers in their 9-8 victory over the Regina Capitals. Deke Junior went 3-for4 with three RBI for the Capitals.

The Piapot Padres defeated the Piapot Wolfpack 10-8 in Western Cycle Rambler Park Fastball League action Monday.

Winning pitcher A.K. Kaiswatum struck out eight in six innings. Donnell Watetch and Avery Taypotat homered for the Wolfpack.

Also on Monday at Rambler Park, the Earl Grey Rockets and Best Buds tied 2-2. Tony Cappo (Best Buds) and Brandon Bailey (Earl Grey) both pitched complete games.

There were two more ties Wednesday, when Silver Screen Sportswear and the Standing Buffalo Dakotas played to a 2-2 draw and the Pasqua A’s and NB Petro Hawks tied at 14-14.

Standing Buffalo got 17 strikeouts in seven innings from Dwayne Redman Jr. In the 14-14 game, Anthony Bear and Josh Montana homered for the Hawks and Matt Strongeagl­e homered for the A’s.

Ken Philson had a hole-in-one Monday on the Tor Hill’s No. 3 west hole. He aced the 170-yard hole while using a 5-iron. His playing partners were Tom Scollan and John McFayden.

Jonathan Tull, formerly of the University of Regina Cougars, helped Canada win the recent Continenta­l men’s basketball tournament in Guizhou, China.
