Jordan Schulz is a cornerstone player for the Regina Red Sox.

“He has been a rock for us for five years,” says Mitch MacDonald, the Western Major Baseball League team’s head coach. “You can count on Jordan for 40-plus games a year with maximum effort.

“You can always count on him. Come hell or high water, Jordan will be on the field at 7:05. It has been a pleasure watching him grow up over the years.”

Schulz, who hails from Strasbourg, often joined the Red Sox on the bench when he was in Grade 11 at William Derby School and not yet a WMBL player. The following year, he was a full-time member of the team. Now, nearing 22, he has all but exhausted his WMBL eligibility.

“The years have gone by so fast,” Schulz marvels. “It has been crazy.”

The six-foot-three, 195-pound outfielder is playing his best baseball as the 2017 regular season nears its conclusion. After 42 games, he was batting .311 with four home runs, 42 RBIs and nine stolen bases.

“I’m trying to leave it all on the field,” says Schulz, who graduated from Minot State University with a degree in finance. “I don’t have anything to save it for. I’m just trying to play my best and see what happens.”

MacDonald is constantly appreciative of the results.

“He’s the epitome of stability and he’s the consummate professional,” the second-year Red Sox field boss says.

“He goes about his work every day. You never need to tell him what he should be doing.

“He’s a guy we’ve never lost an ounce of sleep thinking about.”

On Wednesday, the Moose Jaw Miller Express scored six runs in the fifth inning en route to defeating the Red Sox 10-3 at Ross Wells Park.

Grant Westmoreland was the winning pitcher. Lane Harvey had three hits, a walk and three RBIs for Moose Jaw, which got two hits and an RBI from Scott Platt.

Regina carried a 27-16 record into Thursday’s road game against the Weyburn Beavers.

Next up for the Red Sox is a Friday doubleheader against the Swift Current 57’s at Currie Field. The first of two seven-inning games is set for 6 p.m.
