Service after STC off to poor start

- Pauline Ferland, Regina

The provincial government of the day, when it has found it convenient, chose to involve itself in public/private deals. Now that it seems STC is history, the people of Saskatchewan are out of the loop when it comes to having a centralized forum for information as the new private system evolves. We must assume that others besides myself have need of knowing what routes are available, times, locations, prices and even if communities along the route are being served.

There has been piecemeal service for those who get the Leader Post. And not all have access to the internet. Saskatchewan residents have truly been left in the back seat. What is evolving is confusing, and it has become obvious that insult has been added to injury.

If one wants to have a glimpse of what is possible, take a look at what is available in Quebec. There have been improvements over the years, but they too have several smaller bus companies, with each having their own schedules and rules. At least, in Quebec, one could go to the main bus station and buy a ticket and ask for relevant information. Our beautiful bus depot could be so much more.

The last article I read in the Leader-Post (about the bus routes) indicated that a route had been closed to service because there were not enough riders. A government that made such lofty claims about its resources during the last campaign has begun to reveal its true colours.
