RIDERS TRADE

Acquire Adams from Als

-

Vernon Adams Jr. is now a member of the team against which he made his first CFL start.

Adams, who quarterbacked the Montreal Alouettes to a 19-14 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders last Oct. 22, was acquired by the Green and White on Tuesday.

Saskatchewan traded former University of Regina Rams defensive back Tevaughn Campbell, who was in his second year with the Riders, and two third-round draft picks (in 2018 and 2019) to Montreal for Adams and a fifth-rounder in 2018.

Adams completed 11 of 24 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown in the secondlast CFL game at Taylor Field. His opposite number in that game was Darian Durant, who was dealt to Montreal in January and is now entrenched as Montreal’s starting quarterback.

Montreal had obtained Adams from the B.C. Lions in May of 2016 for a firstround draft pick. He was 42-for-75 for 575 yards, with four TDs and one interception last season. The former Oregon Ducks star also rushed 29 times for 112 yards and a major in 2016, when he started three games for Montreal.

In Saskatchewan, the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder will join a quarterbacking equation that also includes 38-year-old starter Kevin Glenn, third-year CFLer Brandon Bridge and rookie Marquise Williams.

Glenn, Roughriders ■ defensive back Ed Gainey and Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly were named the CFL’s top performers of the week Tuesday.

Glenn threw three touchdown passes in Sunday’s 41-8 victory over B.C., a game in which Gainey intercepted four passes to set a Riders single-game record.

Reilly threw for 384 yards and two TDs as Edmonton defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 27-20 on Thursday.
