- PAMELA COWAN

The provincial government is calling for Saskatchewan people to put their names forward to serve on health professional councils.

The Ministry of Health is looking for people who want to make a difference in health care to apply for volunteer public representative positions on 26 self-regulating health councils in Saskatchewan.

Self-regulating health professional associations include the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses’ Association, the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals, the Saskatchewan Association of Optometrists and the Saskatchewan Dental Hygienists’ Association.

“We’re looking for people who are motivated to share their knowledge and expertise, and we value their important role in putting patients first,” said Health Minister Jim Reiter said in a news release.

Residents with experience on volunteer boards, councils or committees are encouraged to apply.

The commitment ranges from four to 12 days a year. Those selected will attend meetings in Regina, Saskatoon and other Saskatchewan locations. Travel expenses and an honorarium will be paid.

Those interested can seek information from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, Partnerships and Workforce Planning Branch or email rbayliss@health.gov.sk.ca.
