U of R players head to China

Four members of the University of Regina Cougars women’s basketball team are to play in the three-on-three FISU World University League final in Xiamen, China.

Michaela Kleisinger, Charlotte Kot, Kyanna Giles and Avery Pearce are to take part in the tournament, which runs Thursday to Sunday at Huaqiao University.

The Qu’Appelle Valley Baseball League has announced its award winners for 2017.

In the Art Berard division, Russ Nielsen was named the most valuable player. The Regina Dodgers’ Ty Nostbakken was the Berard division’s top rookie.

The Regina Rangers won the Jake Bateman division, in which the Regina Braves’ Nathan Bourassa was named the MVP. Brenden Sirup of the Rangers earned rookie-of-the-year honours.

In the Don Pankewich division, the Bethune Bucs won the title, the Regina Ghosts’ Branden Daniels was the MVP, and the Regina Red Dogs’ Mitch Peterson was top rookie.

Fred Curts of the Arm River Indians won the Len Hills builder-of-the-year award.

Regina rugby teams played host to Saskatoon sides in interlocki­ng 15s play Saturday at Regina Rugby Park. In a women’s match, Regina defeated the Saskatoon Wild Oats 98-15. In men’s action, it was: Regina Rogues 118, Saskatoon Gophers 7; Saskatoon Badgers 66 Regina Highlander­s 5; Saskatoon Wild Oats 53, Regina Condors 27; and Campion Grads 71, Saskatoon Krems 10.
