City pair charged in large meth seizure

A traffic stop on a Regina street has netted more than a kilogram of methamphetamine and resulted in the arrests of two people.

According to information from the Regina Police Service, several units — including the drug unit, traffic services, canine and patrol — were conducting drug and public safety enforcement on Monday when a traffic stop was done in the city’s south end.

Two Regina residents were arrested and their vehicle searched, turning up a quantity of cocaine, marijuana, hydromorphone, morphine and the sizable amount of meth.

Meth is typically sold on the street in quantities significantly less than one gram — making the seizure particularly significant.

Police also seized a machete and a quantity of Canadian cash from inside the vehicle.

Kent Ryan Heise, 32, and Megan Dawn Chevrier, 29, both from Regina, made their first appearances at Regina provincial court on Tuesday afternoon on a variety of drug and weapons charges.

The Crown opposed the release of Heise, who plans to contact a lawyer by his next court date on Sept. 19.

The Crown agreed to the release of a visibly pregnant Chevrier on a range of conditions, including that she stay within a 100-kilometre radius of her Regina home, not contact her co-accused, not use or possess drugs and not possess weapons, among other conditions. She returns to court on Sept. 26.
