Riders have had a rough ride at Tim Hortons Field

The Saskatchewan Roughriders would like to dispense with their doughnut — in the form of a zero — at Tim Hortons Field.

A propensity for turnovers (11 in total) has contributed to the Roughriders’ 0-3 record in Hamilton since the Tiger-Cats’ new stadium opened in 2014.

It was especially ugly last year, when Saskatchewan erupted for seven points while holding Hamilton to 53.

The Roughriders kept muffin’ play after play during that eyesore. Darian Durant threw four interceptions before handing the quarterbacking reins to Mitchell Gale, who served up one pick.

So now the Roughriders are back in Hamilton, hoping to break the ice (cap) after three futile visits that included appearances by six different Saskatchewan quarterbacks.

Sept. 14, 2014: Hamilton 28, Saskatchewan 3. Tino Sunseri and Seth (2-for-2!) Doege quarterbacked the visiting side.

Oct. 9, 2015: Hamilton 30, Saskatchewan 15. Brett Smith and Kevin Glenn were behind centre for Saskatchewan.

Aug. 20, 2016: The aforementioned 53-7 classic, featuring Durant and Gale.

That sextet was a combined 54-for-93 for 658 yards, with two touchdown passes (both by Smith) and eight interceptions. Quarterback rating: 51.3.

Who knows? More quarterbacks may get in the act Friday night, considering Glenn is nursing a bruised right thumb.

If the injury prevents Glenn from playing, Brandon Bridge is likely to draw the start, with a possible cameo by Vernon Adams Jr.

Eight quarterbacks in four visits? Could it happen?

A victory in Hamilton? Could that happen?

A victory would give Saskatchewan four victories in a five-game span this season. That would be quite a roll — with butter, if you prefer.

And that’s a wrap.
