Gables scores two goals as Tartans triumph

Olivia Gables scored two goals as the Campbell Tartans defeated the Miller Marauders 3-0 in Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n girls Tier 1 soccer action Monday.

Kailey Beggs also scored for Campbell.

In another Tier 2 contest, twogoal performanc­es from Lexys Frey and Maria Clara Perez led the O’Neill Titans to a 7-0 victory over the Thom Trojans. Kareema Abdella, Chantel Sullivan and McKynley Weichel also scored for O’Neill.

Also on Monday, Sydney Teece scored twice as the Sheldon-Williams Spartans defeated the Balfour Bears 3-1 in a Tier 2 match. Allie Harder also scored for Sheldon. Rae-Lyn Smith replied for Balfour.

In another Tier 2 match, the Luther Lions got two goals from Elenna Laplante in a 3-1 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds. Madeleine Tell had Luther’s other goal. Marta Krueger scored for Notre Dame. The University of Regina Rams remain at sixth in the weekly U Sports football top-10 rankings.

The Montreal Carabins are in first, followed by the Laval Rouge et Or, Calgary Dinos, Western Mustangs, Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, Regina, UBC Thunderbir­ds, McMaster Marauders, Waterloo Warriors and Saskatchew­an Huskies.

The Rams (2-1) are to return to action Saturday against the Manitoba Bisons (2 p.m., Mosaic Stadium). A Regina women’s rugby team

defeated the host Saskatoon Wild Oats 115-0 on Saturday.
