Local runners compete at Berlin

Gerry Nagy finished seventh in the men’s 50-plus division at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday. He completed the 42.2-kilometre course in two hours 53 minutes two seconds.

Milos Kostic (4:16:31) was sixth in the men’s 75plus division.

The other local runners, in order of time, were: Shaun Hesse (3:07:22), Tracy Fisher (3:36:31), Gay Renouf (3:47:13), Teresa Saccucci (3:53:51), Tim Schneider (3:56:41), Loanne Myrah (4:01:31), Diana Nagy (4:03:46), Deborah Huys (4:22:29), Debra Bellamy (4:23:39), Daphne Bilokury (4:24:00), Kelly Munce (4:42:09), Cari Bode (4:43:35), Jennifer Evancio (4:43:39), Lee-Ann Ricci (4:44:22) and Sean Reidy (5:15:46).

Gerry and Diana Nagy are from Weyburn. The other aforementi­oned runners are from Regina.

The University of Regina Cougars women’s soccer team lost a pair of matches at home over the weekend.

The University of Calgary Dinos won 4-0 on Saturday. The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns edged Regina 2-1 on Sunday. Brianna Wright scored the Cougars’ goal.

In women’s volleyball over the weekend, the Cougars won two of their five matches at the University of Regina Fall Invitation­al Tournament.

The U of R’s women’s hockey team, meanwhile, posted a 3-1 record at the Mandi Schwartz Challenge, held at the Co-operators Centre.

The Cougars finished their schedule at the Challenge on Sunday with a 4-3 overtime victory over the University of Manitoba Bisons. Ireland South scored the overtime winner for Regina, which rallied from a 3-0 first-period deficit.

Running back Carmen Agar has been named the Regina Riot’s most valuable player and offensive player of the year.

Agar helped the Riot win the 2017 Western Women’s Canadian Football League championsh­ip.

Katie Hungle was named the Riot’s defensive MVP.

Payton Kuster received special teams player-ofthe-year honours when the team’s awards were presented Friday.

Brad Launhardt threw five of the Edmonton Huskies’ six touchdown passes Sunday in a 62-30 PFC victory over the visiting Regina Thunder.

Regina’s Sawyer Buettner threw for 372 yards and three scores.

Buettner and Launhardt are tied for the league lead in touchdown passes with 15.

Levi Paul (who caught nine passes for 118 yards), Lee Brown and Jh’Quin Swan caught touchdown passes for Regina, which got 114 rushing yards from Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette.

Paul leads the league in catches (37) and receiving yards (455).

His five TD catches place him in a three-way tie for the league lead.

The Thunder (4-2) is to return to action Sunday against the Calgary Colts (1 p.m., Mosaic Stadium).
