Riders left mark on rehabilitation centre

-

On Sept. 21, Saskatchewan Roughriders players Makana Henry, Zach Minter and Ese Mrabure came to visit with residents at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre.

Although this was not the first time that players have visited with residents here at WRC over the years, this time something happened that I can’t describe.

It was magical. It wasn’t just the photographs and autographs being signed; there was something more taking place. You could literally see it in the faces and hear it in the laughs and conversations. You could genuinely feel it in the room.

Athletes and people who are part of a team often hear and focus on the “stars” to shine. But this visit proved everyone has the ability to shine and make a difference — not just out on the field or in the workplace, but in the hearts and on the faces of others.

One thing is certain: There are three more players on the Riders who have gained huge fans here at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. And when they next step on to the field for this team or wherever their careers take them, I hope they know that long-term-care residents, families, friends and staff here at WRC will be pulling for them and wishing them all the best.

Additional thanks to Andrew Craig whose consistent support made this event possible. Ken Rybchuk, Recreation Therapist, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre.
