Marauders leading pack in Schwann Conference football

The Miller Marauders lead the Regina Intercolle­giate Football League’s Schwann Conference with one week of regular-season play remaining.

Miller improved its record to 5-1-0 on Wednesday by defeating the Winston Knoll Wolverines 38-9.

The Marauders’ Kieran Poissant caught two touchdown passes and ran for another major. Isaac Birdsell added two TD runs. Miller’s Luke Hornung threw for 239 yards and rushed for a team-high 44 yards.

The Campbell Tartans and LeBoldus Golden Suns are tied for second at 4-1-1. Campbell defeated the O’Neill Titans 21-14 on Wednesday, while LeBoldus downed the Riffel Royals 49-14.

Josh Donnelly led LeBoldus with three TD passes — two of which were caught by Ben Camplin — and a TD run.

Morgan Crawford had two intercepti­ons for LeBoldus, which also got a pick-six from Larauche Akaffou. Riffel’s Zachary Arsenault rushed for 113 yards, including a 20-yard TD.

Campbell got strong defensive performanc­es from Josh White (10.5 defensive tackles and one fumble recovery) and Thomas Markusson (two sacks, one fumble recovery and 4.5 tackles) while defeating O’Neill.

Campbell’s Matt Rivers and O’Neill’s Daulton Kadash each threw a TD pass.

The Schwann Conference schedule is to conclude Oct. 20 with three games. At 5:15 p.m., Riffel opposes Winston Knoll at Mosaic Stadium and Campbell plays Miller at Leibel Field. In the nightcap, LeBoldus and O’Neill meet at 7:30 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium.

LeBoldus defeated Miller 2-1 in a shootout Wednesday in a Regina High Schools Athletic Associatio­n 3A girls soccer quarter-final.

Emma Davidson (LeBoldus) and Echo Desjarlais (Miller) scored in regulation time.

In the other 3A girls match, Riffel defeated the Thom Trojans 4-1.

Regina-born Jordan Kazymyra scored two goals Wednesday to lead the Weyburn Red Wings to a 3-1 SJHL victory over the visiting La Ronge Ice Wolves.
